Hoi An is the kind of place that makes sense at walking pace. The old town is compact, warm, photogenic, and very easy to love, but the best version of it comes from moving slowly: morning coffee, tailor visits, market wandering, riverside evenings, and enough time outside the busiest lantern-lit hours.
Morning is quieter, cooler, and better for wandering. Evening brings the lanterns, the crowds, the river boats, and the glow everyone comes for. Both are worth seeing, but they are very different moods.
Hoi An is excellent for low-effort food days. Start with Vietnamese coffee, snack through the market, book a class if you want context, and save some energy for dinner once the old town lights up.
Hoi An is famous for tailors, leather goods, and easy souvenir shopping. The best results usually need fittings and tweaks, so start early in your stay rather than trying to do it all on the final afternoon.
